happiness is a journey 981 designer fashions


Jarrod Jones' dream of playing in the NBA put him on a flight to Houston last week.
His agents, Jared Hodges and Austin Walton of Walton Sports Management, operate out of Houston and they arranged for the Ball State 6-foot-9 senior forward to train with John Lucas, who coached three NBA franchises and played in the league for 14 years.
"He's a great trainer," Jones said. "He works guys out pretty hard. He's able to get the most out them."
Jones said the primary focus of his training right now is to prepare for the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament on April 11-14. The tournament invites 64 seniors to showcase their talents for NBA executives and scouts.
New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin played at Portsmouth in 2010. Chicago Bulls 2011 first-round pick Jimmy Butler took MVP honors at the happiness is a journey tournament last year.
"It's a good way to increase a player's stock in the draft," Jones said of Portsmouth. "It's definitely a big platform for me that I could use. I'm just ready to go out there and have a good performance."
The goal for Jones is to impress at Portsmouth and secure an invite to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago.
The Ball State senior averaged 14.7 points and 8.7 rebounds this past season. He finished sixth all-time at Ball State in points (1,623) and third in rebounds (981).
Jones primarily played with his back to the basket for the Cardinals, but he showcased extended range as a senior. He sank 13-of-35 3-pointers (37.1 percent) after designer fashions missing all 12 of his 3-point attempts in the previous three seasons.
"Jarrod has great range. He's very versatile," said Hodges, whose clientele includes Los Angeles Lakers rookie guard Andrew Goudelock. "We want to show he's more than just a pick-and-pop guy. He can play with his back to the basket. He cleans up at the rim. He's a guy popular shopping who'll fit in any system.
"I could see him as a rookie playing 10 you are my destiny to 15 minutes. He's 2011 hot blog a hard working kid, a great character kid. Those are the guys who stick around in the NBA."
Jones will train primarily out of Houston until the draft, but he is still on schedule to graduate from Ball State in May.
"I'm already ahead of my credits to graduate," Jones said, "so it kind of leaves me a little 2012 malls leverage in my ability to go train."
NBADraft.net projects Jones to be selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round with the 59th overall pick. The NBA draft will be June 28 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.Related articles:
