“But we saw a lot better competition here last year, and it’s going to be the same thing this year with 18 teams. We’re expecting the same level of high competition and we’ll have to play better.”
Given the way the AIA has reshuffled the divisions and sections over the last two years, Jimenez acknowledges the importance of playing better competition early. Last season, the Gophers finished 15-11 and didn’t reach the Division III playoffs.

This year’s young Gopher baseball squad will try to compete for a playoff berth while going through the paces of learning the game.
“A lot of our players this year have very little varsity experience,” Jimenez said. “So we’ll be starting a couple of sophomores, a couple of freshmen, two juniors and maybe one or two seniors. We’ve got a little bit of everything, and the good thing, so far, is that they’re learning how to play together. They’re having fun, and playing our aggressive, hard-nosed style of baseball.
“We’re going to cause problems for a lot of teams.”
Seniors Alex Ughetto and Jared Williams are back, along with juniors Edyvray Ruiz,masenv, Jake Cap, Jonathan Rodriguez, Gavin Wood, Ian Campos and J.T,Louis Vuitton Online. Rodgers. But, as Jimenez points out, this year’s edition of the Gophers will feature a number of freshmen and sophomores seeing significant playing time.
“Jonathan is one of our returning pitchers and he’ll be one of our leading hitters, along with Ian Campos. They’ll hit at the top of the order,” Jimenez said. “From there, it’s wide open with some freshmen who stepped up and made varsity,Tory Burch shoes. And we have some sophomores and juniors who played a little bit of varsity last year, but are trying to stay up here.”
Freshmen expected to impact the lineup include outfielder Beau Griego, first baseman Carly DeVries, middle infielder Daniel Mejia and catcher Oscar Rodriguez – Jonathan’s younger brother.
Sophomores pushing for playing time include Justin Whalen, infielder-pitcher Brandon Anderson, outfielder Paul Madueno, and catcher-outfielder Johnny Morton,Louis Vuitton Outlet.
“Brandon has never pitched before, but he’ll be one of our top pitchers this season,Chanel Online,” Jimenez said. “He worked really hard in the off season to be a good pitcher for us.
“Anyone who has watched us before might not recognize most of the faces on the field. And that can be good and bad,” Jimenez said. “They say it’s a good problem to have for the future of your program, but I think it’s a good problem to have right now. They’re learning a lot, quickly, and they’re going to learn on the fly.
Jimenez said the Gophers’ first goal is to return to the playoffs.
“Last year, we thought we were good enough to be in the playoffs, but with the power points and how everything worked out, we didn’t get in,” he said. “There are no excuses this year. We need to win 15 to 20 games to get in. After that, we’re confident we can play with anybody.”
