Duran has pleaded not guilty to the Sept. 23, 2007,Beats by Monster, stabbing death of Howard Villanueva, 40, in her Palm Springs home. He was stabbed 12 times, with a fatal wound to his neck.
Deep wounds were across Villanueva's hands, face, neck and shoulders — clearly "kill shots," Deputy District Attorney Jon Brandon argued in his opening statements.
Duran began to clean up the scene around Villanueva "while he took his last breath" in a pool of blood in the dining room, Brandon said. When Palm Springs police detectives arrived at her home,acheu.com, they found blood splattered through the house and an overwhelming smell of bleach.
Duran began cleaning up "in the stress of the moment,” argued defense attorney Dean Benjamini, who called the case ugly and violent.
She was taken to the police department for questioning, where she told a detective that Villanueva attacked her and she stabbed him “two to three times” during a struggle, according to legal briefs.
Duran, then 19, stabbed an intoxicated, 218-pound Villanueva in self-defense after he lunged at her, Benjamini told jurors,pilewu.com/coach.html.
